Seven Photographs that changed fashion

Seven photographs that changed fashion is a digital video by Rankin on re creating seven amazing images that seven popular photographers took. Rankin himself is a brilliant photographer. Below is the list of photographers and the work that inspired him and the re creations he did.

Cecil Beaton

The original image by Cecil Beaton was created in the year 1930. Rankin then went and created a similar image using similar lighting to the one Cecil did and he also used the same camera as well. The image that he created came out to be really good and he used the model Sophie Ellis- Bexter.

Erwin Blumenfeld

The image by Erwin Bluenfeld was the cover page for vogue in the year 1950. As for the image to be as the original one as Rankin used photoshop to erase the details like the other eye and slightly over expose the image. To make it as a signature of his own creation in Rankin's picture the model sticks her tongue out to give it  more today's look.

Richard Avedon

Richard Avedon created Dovima with Elephants in 1955.  Rankin used the model Erin O'Conner as the model for the re creation as he though that her facial features are quite bold as well with her bone structure. Again in Rankin's picture all the basic things are the same and yet the pose is slightly different. I guess this is what makes Rankin different from other photographers.

David Bailey

David Bailey created the original picture in the year 1960. Re creating this image Rankin used his wife as the model as he believed that no one else could have done a better job. They used a fan to get that hair effect and then turned the image to black and white.

Helmut Newton

The original image was created in the year 1975 by Helmut Newton. Rankin re created the image in the same spot and place that Helmut Newton did. Newton himself lived quite close from where this shot was taken. This picture in itself is amazing with the message it gives across. It shows a lady wearing a suit holding a cigarette in her hand. This seems to be a very masculine thing however this image states that females can take the lead too.

Guy Bordin

Guy Bordin created the original image during the 1970's. Rankin went and recreated the image using the same colour as the background. However Rankin had more of stronger lighting in his image than Bordin did. Also, Rankin got his model to wear red tights which I thought really contrasted with the background and made the image pop.

Herb Ritts

The original image by Herb Ritts was created in the year 1984. Rankin used model David Gandy to re create this image.  Just as in the original image his body had to be oiled to have that glossy look in the image. Rankin also tried to use a similar location to get as close as he could to the original image.
